To mark the commencement of work on our new site. The turf cutting ceremony was led by John Fuller, Leader of South Norfolk Council.
The ground-breaking ceremony for Big Sky Living’s exciting new development, St Giles Park, took place on Monday 9 March.
The land purchased by Big Sky Living at the end of May 2018 has planning permission for 350 homes and 2,500 square metres of retail space. The site is made up of two pieces of land east of the A47 and either side of the A11. The land that will be developed by Big Sky Living is on the south side of the A11.
Of the 350 homes being delivered, 116 (33%) will be affordable homes. The site will also have retail and parkland areas including sports pitches and space for families to relax and play together. The homes will be a mix of bungalows, apartments and houses - ranging from one to five bedrooms.
The development is supported by a grant of £7.8m from Homes England. The funding was awarded through the Government’s £450m Local Authority Accelerated Construction Programme.
Paul Kitson, Director of High Growth & New Settlements at Homes England, said: “We are delighted that this funding has helped South Norfolk Council to significantly accelerate their plans, by enabling them to prepare this excellent site for development and bring forward the construction of much-needed new homes much sooner than would otherwise be possible.”
John Fuller, Leader of South Norfolk Council, said: “The Council is investing in the future of the district by building new homes and supporting local infrastructure. We are also investing in the local economy by providing new office and retail space, encouraging businesses and employment into the area. Big Sky Living is building quality houses that people want to live in, offering more space and specifications that meet our customers’ expectations.
“South Norfolk Council’s residents will get a return on our investment through the sale of houses and from the rental income from both residential and commercial property. This income will be used to help maintain services and keep Council Tax low.”
Engineering works to provide the access off the Round House roundabout (A11) is scheduled to start in April with phase one of the housing starting after the summer. It is hoped that the first homes will be released for sale towards the end of this year.
